Which prayer is the most powerful?

Dear Friend,

Today I want to answer the question that I hear so often - Which of the prayers is the most powerful?

Despite the advice given by the Saints, monks, priests, or clerics, people continue to doubt that they read the correct prayers, and continue thinking that there is one specific prayer that they have not yet heard of and that could help them more than any other.

On the contrary, the power of prayer lies in sincerity, thoughtfulness, and most importantly - the love with which it is read. During prayer, you must think and speak with your heart. If during your morning prayers you are instead thinking about what meal you are going to eat for lunch that day, or if during a long service in a church you are studying the clothes that the woman in front of you is wearing, you cannot give all your ultimate love to the prayer, i.e. the love in your conversation with God. Praying for a long time, several times a day, and keeping the focus is not easy, especially in the early years of starting your daily prayer. But if you ask the Lord to keep the attention on your prayer and not be distracted, and also show the Lord that you are really trying to do this, your soul will grow to the state of “free prayer”. In other words, when praying you will only think about what you want to say to the Lord and what to hear back from Him, and extraneous thoughts will not disturb you.

It is also very important to note that if you read prayers in a language that doesn’t make sense to you (e.g. Old English or Church Slavonic) you need to either first study the interpretation of those prayers separately, or pray in your own words. After all, it is unreasonable to communicate with the Lord without understanding what you are telling Him. If you are unable to understand the interpretation of the prayers, always pray in your own words and ask the Lord to enlighten you and help you understand what is written in the text. Also, if you understand the text of the church prayers, but still do not feel them, pray in your own words.

Prayer is communication with God, where both quality and quantity are important. We have established what the quality refers to, but what about the quantity? Quantity does not mean excessive verbosity, as Christ Himself tells us:

“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” Matt. 6:7-8.

These words mean that if you ask the Lord for something, you do not have to explain to Him the smallest details of your wishes, you only need to ask. On the contrary, when you sincerely repent of your sins, repeating the words "Lord have mercy" 40 times does not entail verbosity.

To draw a conclusion, pray with your heart, giving your whole love, and the Lord Jesus Christ will hear you, no matter what prayer you read.

May the Grace of the Lord and Love be with you all.
